I live in a 4-unit apartment building with no doorbells, so I hung the unit on the front door of the building with a stick-on note that it is for my apartment (building is also locked) and hung the receiver right inside my apartment door. People use it all the time. My grandson fell in love with it as he/family also live in an apartment with no doorbell so I bought one for them also. I love having the ability to change songs/sounds at will.
