The photo of the hat is somewhat deceiving. The ear flaps are not as thick as they appear. I bought the hat for my sons and my son-in-law and not one of them could wear it.

We live in Flordia and yes sometimes it gets very cold. We went on a camping trip in Feb and temps got to below freezing. It got to the point of wearng 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants. This hat helped my head and ears from freezing. Very comfortable and warm.
