Zipper is short to allow for longer straps to be put in. But that prevents me from getting my tall books and magazines in and out easily and without tearing them. The front compartments are not wide enough for water bottles or even a cell phone as I had hoped. However, the material is so soft and attractive, along with the matching accessories, that I will alter the zipper myself and continue to use this bag. Presentable, tall bags are hard to find so I do recommend buying this one! Also, as I walk to the bus and to the office in business attire, this bag is attractive yet practical. The umbrella comes with a plastic case so when you use it and put it away, the bag is protected.
